ELECTION MATTEES.

The Otago Daily Times states that there is no truth in the rumour that the Hon. Major Richardson intends to offer himself as a candidate for the Snperintendenoy at the enauing election. — A requisition to Mr. J. B. Bradshaw, M.H.E., is in course of signature in the Waikaia (Switzers) district, asking that gentleman to allow himself to be nominated at the general election as a candidate for the representation of the district in the House of Representatives. Messrs. W. Gibson, 11. A. Ingles, E. G. T. Gooch, and Studholme are said to be in the field for the seat in the General Assembly for the Cheviot district. Captain Kenny, Dr. Parker, and Mr. Doualin are mentioned by the Press as candidate to contest the repesentation of Picton in the General Assembly.- -Mr. H. Dodsonhas been elected as Mayor of Blenheim, for the next year. — Macandrew has sent in his resignation. Bradshaw opposes Mackaie. Calder opposes Wood at Invercargill. — The County Council elections of Hokitika came off on the 9th, resulting as follow : — Returned for Hokitika — Messrs. Reid and Bonar ; for Greymouth — Messrs. Guinness and Lahman j for Kanieri — Mr. Rohinson ; for Waimea — Mr. Barff ; for Ross— -Mr. Button. News has not yet been received fron Paroa and Okarita. Mr. Hoos, the County Chairman, stood for Hokitika.
