MR. ASHERS CONTRADICTION.
To the Editor of the D uly Southerx Cboss. Sir, — I think Mr. Ashers letter is properly headed this morning, as ho certainly acs knowledges' all he contradicts. Having so recently been a heavy suffeier by fire on the same spot, and every moment increasing the danger of the destruction of my property, it is not unnatural that I may hare been a little excited, more especially knowing the contents of the burning building ; and I think, sir, it was "my own business" to give the superintendent of the Fire Brigade any information that might lead to the salvation of my own or any adjoining property. As for "fussy interference or self-conceit," JM>. Asher says he has been superintendent of the Fire Brigade for fifteen years j during that time has Mr. Asher or any member of the Fire Biigade known me to interfere with them in the execution of their duty? I acknowledge my ignorance of the working of the fire-engines ; but, with all due respeot to the superintendent, on inquiry and conversation with a member of the Brigade, I find that what I suggested could have been easily accomplished, and, had my building been again destroyed, I should always have blamed Mr. Asher for it. Apologising for again troubling you, — I am, &c., T. B. Hill,
