We have Sydney papers to the 30th. The Sydney Morning 'Herald of that date reports t— "The 'James Aitken,' from London, arrived to-day with a general cargo valued at 50, 028 J. Bank shares have heen dealt in at full rates. New South Wales are in great request at an improvement of \l. to \l. 10a on last quotations; an advance of 11. has alao taken place in Union. The inquiry for insurance stock has been confined to General. The market is almost bare of Government securities, and buyers' orders remain unfulfilled. A few New South Wales terminables brought par. Interminables were quitted at 90. Bank of Australasia, 55 j New South Wales, 40 to 404 5 New Zealand, IG£ ; Union, 50. New Zealand Treasury bills, 100£. The Australasian Steam Navigation Company declared a dividend of 8 per cent.per annum. Shipping parcels of tallow meet a ready sale at 34?. to 361. 10s for mutton, and 831. to M. 10a for fair to good boiling beef. Dulness of trade continues as general when we wrote last mail summary. Credit is tolerably sound, and only one failure of any note has occurred recently. Lumber is slow of sale, and prices unsatisfactory ? dried apples, about 8d per lb. ; keroaine, 2s 8d to to 2s 9d ; preserved lobsters, 8s to 8a 6d ; salt salmon is scarce, and would command 6d if prime. Agents ask Is to Is 3d for sound honeydew and negrohead ; cigars are in supply. Best brands* of Adelaide silk-dressed' floui are selling here at Ul. 10s to 15?.; Sydney mills, at 13/. to 14?. ; Victorian' and country, 122. 10s to 131 5a for bakers' lota. Oalifornian meets a olow sale ; 200 tons of best brands found a market at 12/., say 5 dollars 76 cents per barrel. Wheat is very scarce; best commands 6a 3d; inferior, 5s upwards. A cargo of new Chilian imported sold at 5s 7£d. There is very little demand for barley and oats. Candles : Best brands, 10^d ; inferior down to 9d; light weights, 8d to B^d. Coals: Company's quotations at Newcastle are 8s f. o. b. Prime figs and muscatels continue scarce and saleable. Plantation coffee, 9d to 9|d. Groceries and oilmen's stores only saleable in small lots for trade orders. Liquors : We have no change to report. , Teas : A few small parcels were placed I daring last week, at low rates. Maize, 3s 8d; oaten hay, 3s 3d to 5s 9d ; lucerne hay, 4s 6d to 5s 6d ; straw, 2s 6d to 3s 9d." ]
