Lights in Tnte Red Sea. — The society for |fche development and industry of Marseilles has published an appeal to the French Government to use its influence to get established without delay in the Red Sea a number of lights which it says are indispensable, now that that sea is likely to be extensively navigated* It names twelve places where lights are required ; one of them, however, being Suez, where only a better light than the one now existing is needed. It, moreover, say 3 that lights on the Abyssinian coast ought to be set up. The society likewise calls for the establishment of a corps of European pilots, the Arab pilots now employed bein«, with few exceptions, untrustworthy ; finally, the society recommends the extension of the electric telegraph to different parts of the coast.
