THE PORT OF CALL QUESTION. PROPOSED DEPUTATION TO SYDNEY.

A meeting of the committee appointed at the public meeting held in the Mechanics' Institute, on the 3rd instant, to consider the propriety of sending a deputation to confer with Sydney on the question of the port of call, was held on Tuesday last. There were present Captain W. C. Daldy, Messrs. J. M. Clark, E,. J. Creighton, W. Morrin, W. Graham, W. L; Rees, G. Yon Der Heyde. Dr. Nicholson occupied the chair. It was proposed by Mr. J. M. i lark, seconded by Mr. W. Morrin, and carried unanimously, "That in the opinion of this Chamber Sydney should be communicated with by deputation." - It was also proposed by Mr. Clark, seconded by Mr. J. T. Boylan, and carried unanimously, "That his Honor the Superintendent be requested to defray the expenses of the deputation out of Provincial funds." — Mr. W. Morrin. proposed, Mr. Boylan seconded, and it was carried unanimously, "'That Dr. Nicholson, Captain Daldy, and Messrs. Macfarlane, Creighton, Clark, and Hees be appointed a sub-committee to draw up a report for the guidance of the deputation, and that the report be submitted to a meeting of the committee." It was also agreed that a copy of the first resolution be submitted to hia Honor the Superintendent. We learn that, in reply to the request as to defraying the expenses of the deputation, his Honor the Superintendent has suggested that the Chamber of Commerce should advance the requisite sum in the first instance, and has promised, in the event of their doing so, to place a. sum on the estimates at the next meeting of the Council, to recoup the amount,
