NOTICE TO CORRESPONDENTS.

Mr. A. McDonald, Pukekohe Valley, has sent us a long letter on the subject of the proposed Highways Act, condemning the Provincial Council for nofc confening certain powers on the Highway Board 3, which he admits can only be given by the General Assembly, and condemning us for not inserting his letters without condensation. The last offence is doubtless the gravest ; but as we publish a paper for the information of the public generally, it is impossible always to please our correspondents, although on the whole we believe they are satisfied with us. What Mr. McDonald says is simply this : that power should be given to recover the rates as a common debt, and the ownei, occupier, or agent of any land should be made directly liable. He objects to the statute labour clause ;" which he thinks wiil not be accepted by the public. Mr. McDon \\& alao discusses the details of the proposed measure at some length ; bnfcaa the Pukekohe settlers cansidered the draft bill, and reported to the Superintendent, we apprehend that the general opinion of the district has thus been elicited. It is, therefore, unnecessary to occupy space in giving currency to individual opinion regarding the bill. A number of letters from other correspondents are unavoidably held over.
