New York advices to Februaiy 12 have been received at Sydney. Messrs. Arkell and Tuft'a circular of that date states : — "Hardware: Trade continues quiet, as usual at this season of the year, but a fair trade is soon looked for. Messrs. Collins and Co. have made a slight reduction in the prices of their handled axes. Wo trust to have fmther ones to advise in our next. Carriages and wooden ware show no changes since our last. Brooms continue to be iirmly held. Kerosineoil has fluctuated but slightly. Shipments to Australia for the coming 30 days will be in excess of our last three or four reports (in view of the favourable season at which it may be expected to arrive), after which we look for a falling off again. Lumber : There is no disposition to ship to your ports, except to fill up vessels on berth. Sundries : Dried applea, lobsters, and oysters are in light stock, and firmly held at quotations. Agricultural implements are generally in light supply, and na disposition is shown to make any concessions. Patent medicines unchanged. Good and medium tobaccoes scarce. Freight: Offerings moderate. We quote, to Melbourne, 224 dollars to 274 d.°l" lars ; to Sydney, 27A dollars to 324 dollars. Nothing on for Adelaide or New Zealand. Gold and Exchange have varied but little since our last ; the former from 123| to 1194, and the latter 108| *o 109 per cent. Exchange, to-day We quote 60 days' bills on London, 109 per cent, for bankers, and 108£ per cent, for commercial. Gold, to-day, 120$ per cent." -
