OTAGO.

Business remains quiet, aud transactions in the import market are still on a moderate scale, and show little of interest. However, though little life is apparent, and operations of individual importance are few and far between, trade has not been altogether without improvement, and indications are not wanting that progress towards a better state of things is making. In general goods there is little to note, except a fairly maintained state of the markets, values remaining without any essential change. Moderate sales of brandies, galvanised iron, beera, teas, and tobaccos, are reported— in all cases at about our last quotations. Kerosine maintains the recently noted advance. Candles are in more favour, and sugars possess firmness. At Messrs. Scoular's bond, the damaged sugars, ex 'Zingara,' about 2,500 bags, were disposed of by Messrs. McLandress, Hepburn, and Co., at full ratea. The produce market is more active, though operations seem confined to local account, and nothing is done in the shipment of grain. The quotations for wheat, barley, and oats have not varied since the commencement of the week. —Otago Daily Times, April 22.
