(FROM SATURDAY'S "EVENING STAR.") MONTHLY RETURNS.

Goodall's Prince Alfred Battery : During the past month there has been 438 tons of stone passed through this battery. The amount of gold as yet received has been 2030z. 9d\vt. 10gr., not including the yield from the Shooting Star, which was on the fire this afternoon, and that from the Inverness, which will be completed by the evening. The claims which crashed were — the Prince Imperial 31 tons, Sons of Hibernia 3 tons, City of Melbourne ] ton, Young Ameiican 121 tons, Poverty and Charleston 114 tons, Shooting Star 100 tons, and Inverness 6S tons. Since the clean water has been used at this battery, a great increase has been found in the quality of stone which can be put through, and also the yield of gold is much better. During the past month th» whole force of the battery has not been at work, but the return for the coming month will be a very good one. Golden Crown : The return for the month from this mine has not been as much as it would otherwise have been had a regular supply of water been procurable. The amount of melted gold received for the month has been 8360z. lldwt. 12gr. A portion of this has been obtained from stone crushed at the Tararu battery. [The Mail gives the weekly retorting from the stuff crushed at the company's battery as 81oz lOdwt. from CO tons. At the Tararu battery there were 120 tons, put through, and the result obtained was 960z., making a total yield of 1770z. from 180 tons stove.] Kuranui Company : The fortnightly cleaning up of the 30 head of stampers crushing stone from the company's mine was effected this morning, and the amalgam retorted. "From the amount of the latter on hand, 900oz. of gold was expected, but up to the time of our going to press the retoi-ts had not been taken off the fire. [The Mail gives the total as 8290z. lOdv/t.J Jamaica : 1250z. 12dwt. of retorted gold was lodged in the Bank of New Zealand this morning from a crushing of some stone from this claim. The lot, when melted, turned out a bar of 1230z. lodwt. 12gr. Weston's Battery : At Wcston's battery they have just completed a crushing of 30 tons of Jamieaon's atone. The manager anticipates a larger yield than that from former lot, which averaged from 4oz. to soz. to the ton. They are now on the Pride of the West stuff, carrying out a contract for the ! crushing of 500 tons, which up to the present time has averaged 1 ?;oz. to the ton. Australasian : Here they have just completed a trial crushing for the Two-Fingered Company. The yield has not turned out so well as expected, averaging only 4O4 OZ > to tiie ton. They are now crushing a small lot for | the Ploughman of ten tons, which is lookiug 1 well. The Candlelight are rolling in a lot of 'o0 tons, which was commenced yesterday. 1 TKe Criterion': From here will be sent down to the bank to-day lOOoz., the pro-

ceeds of the Golden Age, the last lot, 25 tons,, yielding 870z., the balance being made up of small trial crushinga. The Belfast : TJie plates of the battery crushing for this claim at the Tramwaybattery were roughly cleaned down this morning, and the amalgam, when retorted, gave a bar of gold 115oz. flSdwt. of goodquality gold. This crushing is promising to give a splendid total return ; and as a large quantity of stone is intended to be passed through, the shareholders will probably get a very nice dividend. The mine is now in splendid working order, and the quantity of stone which can be taken out is expected to be sufficient to keep a battery going continually. [The Mail gives the total as 1250z.]
