LATEST THAMES NEWS (FROM OUR OWN CORRESPONDENT.) Saturday, 3 p.m.

WHAU. For the past fortnight this company have occupied ten head at the Thames crushing machine, and the usual retorting took place this morning, -when 150oz. of gold were deposited in the Bank of New Zealand. This has been extracted from 130 tons of stuff, and, if 251b. of specimens crushed the other day are included, it gives a total of 161oz, 15dwt.

WAITEMATA. The returns forwarded you yesterday contain the whole of the crushing, whereas the return of the Advertiser gives only that latterly crushed at the Waiotahi machine, heuce the discrepancy — each of them right for the number of tons crushed.

BATTERY REPORTS. Prince Alfred. - The Inverness have had possession of ten head for some time past, and the clearing up is expected to take place on Monday. The specimens are nowgoing through the single stamper. Shooting Star are now cleaning up, and the retorting will take place on Monday. Castle and Galatea are now crushing with the stampers lately occupied by the Shooting Star, but the stuff has not been going through long enough to form an opi- [ nion of it. Tramway. — Six head on for the Mariners' Reef, and six for the Belfast Company. Hatjraki. — The circular portion of this battery is crushing for the Manukau, and the other portion for the West Coast, which is showing well for a payable return. Kuranut. — Thirty head for the Com- [ pany, ten foi* the Long Drive, and the old machine for the City of Glasgow, who will clean up on Monday. Partington's. — The fifty tons for the All .Nations are almost completed, and the return, when forwarded, will be a splendid one. [ Souters. — Ten head on for the Flying I Cloud, and the plates are looking magnificent, and the remainder for the Providence, whose return will be a good payable one. "Vickery'J). — The whole force of this small battery is at present engaged upon stuff from the Flying Australian, and also a large lot from the Queen of Sheba awaits its turn. Bull's. — Six head of this battery are also engaged upon 30 tons from the Young Australian, and a seven-ton lot from the Little Sweeney, besides several other small lots, for trial. Una. — The whole force of the machine is engaged upon quartz from their own mines, and the yield will be a good one, showing up well for the returns lately got. Planet. — A fifty -ton lot from the Wade employs the whole of the stampers that can at present be worked, and a large quantity from the Never-too-Late-to-Mend will follow.
