There has been nothing to chronicle of any groat importance, since the date of our last monthly budget for Europe, in connection with the nati\c question. Te Kooti is still at large; but ho is pursued by Ropaui, and other friendly chiefs. He made a descent on the Bay of Plenty, iu the neighbourhood of Opape, and captuicd about fifty women and childen. Ropata, during his expedition in the Urewera territory, in quest of Te Kooti, took prisoners an equal number of Hauhaus ; and three or four natives are reported killed. No Europeans are now employed in any of the -expeditions to the inteiior. A reward of <£<5,QQO vn\\ 1v paid to the natives capturing Te Kooti flis Excellency the Governor is in Auckland. The Premier, Mr. Fox, paid a lengthened visit to tliis> city and the goldfield, and took pai-b in several meetings in connection with the temperance movement, and the establishment of a reformatory. He has since returned to "Wellington. The Colonial Treasurer, Mr. Vogel, visited Wellington, hut is expected to be in Auckland for the inauguration of the new mail service, via San Francisco, which owes its existence to hih action when at Sydney. The Nathe Minister, Mr. Donald McLean, is at present on an official tour in the southern districts of this piovince. In general or provincial politics there is nothing material to note. Mr. Ball has resigned his seat in the General Assembly for Mangonui, and the feu perintendent, Mr. Gillies, is a candidate for the vacant seat. We have heard it stated that the seat would be contested, but we apprehend Mr. Gillies's return is secure.
