AUCKLAND ROWING CLUB.
The members of the Auckland Bowing Club entertained the Thames Bowing Club at dinner last evening at the Royal Hotel, in celebration of the first contest between the two crews, which oame off on the previous morning. There were Borne thirty gentlemen present, Major Heaphy occupying the chair, and James Russell, Esq., the vice-chair. Dinner was served in a style characteristic of the worthy host of the hotel, Mr. W. A. Clarke, and, ample justice having been done, the usual loyal and patriotic toasts were given and responded to. — The Chairman then proposed the toast of the evening — "Our Guests" — in appropriate and complimentary terms, noticing the spirit exhibited by the gentlemen who composed the Thames club in challenging the Auckland team, and spending so much of their time, at a distance from their owa waters. Mr. C. S. Totton responded to the toast. "The Press" wa3 next proposed, by the Vice-chairman, and responded to by Mr. Wilkinson (Thames Advertiser) and Mr Ellis (Daily Southern Cboss). Next followed "The Referees," " The Ladies," " The Captains of the Thames and Auckland Rowing Clubs," " The Auckland Rowing Club and the Winning Crew," "The Defeated Crew," and several others, and which were duly responded to ; after which several songs were sung,' and the meeting was brought to a 1 clo»e about one o'clock, *31 well pleased with the evening* «nt«rt*inm«nt.
