MATTERS AT THE THAMES. (FROM YESTERDAY'S "THAMES ADVERTISER.")

ADVERTISER.") TpE 'usual, weekly retorting of the Golden Crown took place, at the, company's battery ion' Saturday, and'the result is fully equal to former returns. - The yield is 4500z. 4dwt. of gold from between 80 and 90 tons of stone. The All Nations Crushing-kßichßeturns • Stuff from the All Nations Claim has occupied the 6-stamper battery ol the Kuranui machine for some time, and on Saturday last the crushing was completed. There were altogether 72 tons of stone crushed, and the fine result of 5720z. 7dwt of retorted gold was turned out aa the result, making a general average of nearly Boz. to the ton. The last 26 tons put through were taken out at the 100-feet level, and it is calculated it yielded an average of nearly 6oz. to the toil. The fine order in which this mine has lately been put, through the indefatigable exertions of Mr. Hansen, the manager, will enable the company, to have more frequent crushinga than ik,?s recently been the caae; We ' must congratulate the All Nations shareho'ders on tueir continued prosperity, aa well as on their ifi'ture prospects, shown by the richness of th£ reef on the lower workings. .' The Waitemata: The crushing for tjb*e Waitemata was finished up on Saturday' evening,- and the result" is that after a fortnight's crashing there is upwards of 900oz. of hard amalgtim on hand. This will be retorted to day, sad we have no doubt but that the result will be satisfactory to all parties. The Waitemata has been crushing at the Waiotahi battery. The Manukau : Crushing for the Manukau will be commenced this morning at the Waiotahx battery, and will occitpy it for a fortnight,, after which the Waitemata will a<*ain come in. Of late there has been a fine lot o£ stone turned out of the Manukau, and the present crushing is expected to be a great improve T&ent on the last one. The additions to the Waiotahi battery are progressing The Junction: A crushing for the Junction Claim is to be commenced this morning at the Kurauui Company's six-stamper, and favourable results are expected,

A number of very rich specimens were taken out of the Cure Claim on Saturday The reef is looking much better as it goes towards the Eed Queen boundary, from which the present workings are only about 150 feet. , ££ y °i Dv, nedill •' There was about 1,2000z. of amalgam in the safe on Saturday which had been taken from the plates alone during the crushing, and, with what will be in the stamper-boxes and the silver the return of gold may be expected to be something very payable. There are about twenty men continually employed on the ground, some in stripping and breaking do^M the reef near the surface, others working the reef xn drives from one of the shafts on the claim, and some sulking the second shaft put dowii helow the reef thirty feet so as to open it on that lb7el- There is every prospect of this mine becoming pne of the best-paying in Taravn. We are authoritatively informed that the Ladybird and Hand of Friendship stone will be commenced upon at Russell's battery to-day. Shamrock : A very rich leader was struck in this claim last week in a drive at the 143. foot level. The size of the leader is about If, inches, making as it goes down, and the stone is a hard blue quartz, in which gold can be distinctly seen. Prince Imperial: Ten tons of stone were crushed from this claim at Souters battery on Friday, and gave the return of 7oz lddwfc of gold. The Golden Crown : The battery on the claim was cleaned on Saturday, after a week's crushing, and the amalgam retorted, which gave the very payable result of 4500z. 4dwt. of gold. Sunbeam Claim : The winze that is being suuk on this claim to lay bare the reef from the outcrop to the lower tunnel is dowu seventy feet, and is expected to break through iv a few days. Altogether 300 tons of the lode have been crushed, to a return o£ of loz. ISdwt. to the ton. Nolans Candlelight No. 1 : The shareholders of this claim are busily employed taking out a large stop of the reef from the low-level tunnel to the upper shaft. The stone isvery good, as gold can be seen more or less in every truck-load tcaUn onfc. On Saturday there was more than 501b. weight of specimens found during the last shift. There are at present over forty tons of stone to giass, Jamaica : This is an adjoining claim to the last-mentioned, and the same reef is being worked upon. There have also been n few specimens taken from the reef, which has just the same appearance in the adjoining claims, in which it is worked. Mclsaac's Goldmining Company: The work on this claim is going on steadily, and the reef, which is being stoped out, is widening, so that a pretty large battery, could be supplied uninterruptedly. The Company's four stampers are kept going night and day, but cannot crush more than ten or twelve tons per week. But as the stone will yield at least 2oz. per ton, even that small quantity will pay all working expanses.—Tims',, February 7.
