Two infantry regiments are under orders to proceed immediately to Ireland. , Lord Oldud Hamilton, a Conservative, has been elected member for King's Lynn. The anniversary of the Siege of Londonderry passed off quietly. The report of the death by drowning of Sir Stafford Northeote has been contradicted. Professor Maine has been appointed Professor of Jurisprudence for Oxford. The Berlin correspondent of the Times states that the Emperor of the French, has proposed a general disarmament to the Courts of St. Petersburg, Vienna, Florence, Btsilin, and probably London. Mr. Otway, m "uis speech to his con stituents, said the Government had received satisfactory explauatious from the Russian Government respecting the advances they are making into Central Asia. He also said that the safety of the Ind an Empire depended upon our ruling for the benefit of the people, which being done, the empire would last for centuries. The directord of Overend Gurney's Bank have been acquitted. The dividend of the Peninsular and Oriental Company is at the rate of 6 per cent, per annum. Mr. Fiali haa submitted to the United States Congress further correspondence repecting the Alabama claims, proposing the resumption of the negotiations for their settlement at Washington. Lord Clarendon has replied that in Reverdy Johnson's treaty the rights of England were modified. It was his conviction that the English. Government coiild not risk further negotiations until the terms were more clearly intimated ; but that he was anxious for an'early and honourable adjustmeut of the claims, and w.m, moreover, willing to see the laws changed, to prevent the recurrence of the difficulty. For the loan of £100,000 for the South Australian Government, £611,500 waa offered. The amount was allotted afc 8J to 9^ premium, principally the former.
