Drunkenness.— John Artingstall, Joseph Brown, James Brown, Robert Brown, James Goslan were fined each 5s., or 24 hours' nuprisouuisnt. Mary Ann Smith and Joint Leonard, also charged with this offence for the second time, were fined each 10s., or 48 homy' imprisonment. Thomas McMamus, an old offender, was mulcted in the sum of 2(K and coats, or 48 hours' imprisonment and 7 da\ -. additional. Larceny. — John Johnson was charged with this offence. — Mr. Commissioner Naughton said it was one of those numberless casc^. where a person ia given in charge without consideration on the part of the prosecutoi , — that it appeared that it was only a trivial affair altogether, and that, as he did not wish to press the charge, he would recommend the Bench to dismiss it. — Case dismissed. Violent Assault.— James Brown, A.B., of the ship 'Helenslee,' was ehai'ged by Charles Friend, the cook of that vessel, with violently assaulting him last night on boaid the vessel in question. — The prosecutor, whose face was bandaged, and who appeal e I to have suffered severely, deposed to the facts of the assauH, and was corroborated by the evidence of Thomas Leech and Archibald McKinnon, seamen belonging to the vessel. — The captain gave the prisoner a character for good behaviour. — Mr. Commissio.^i Haughton urged upon the Bench thenecc^vly of stopping such, disgraceful scenes, and the Bench lined the prisoner in the sum of JO, or two months' imprisonment with hard labour. Assault. — Charles Hook was charged b^ George Worrell with this offence, but,a<3 iI'cij was no appearance of either party, the ca ,e was struck out. Assault. — Charles Reynolds, Henry Reynolds, and George Christmas, were charged with assaulting John Conn,' on the Newton Road, on. Saturday night last. — Mr. Leary, for prosecutor j Mr. Heaketh for the defence Prosecutor deposed aa to the assault, and Dr. Pierce described the nature of the wounds. — John Tucker, a very intelligent lad, completely upset the prosecutor's evidence, and the oase was dismissed by the Bench. — A contraction was withdrawn by Mr. Hesketh.
