PUBLIC MEETING AT HAMILTON. (FROM OUR OWN CORRESPONDENT.)
A MEEnxo of settleid was held on Decemb r 4tb, in the Hamilton Hotel, to discuss matteis relative to the welfare ami advancement of the distnct, almost all the influential nit,ii in the neighbourhood being present. Among them I obscived Messis Douglas, Simpson, Leslie, Nidd.m, Steele, Beere, McPherson, Mai tin, Oiaham, Woolly Brothei s, &c — Douglas, Esq., Cambudge, was voted to the chair, The question of mci cased steam communication, via Waikato Heads, also the routes via Awaroa and Whangamai ino, weie discussed. 11 Simpson, Ksq , agreed to furnish statistics lelativc to the aho\ c lvutes, that would enable them to come to a decision as to their practibihty and likely cost. — Gaptain Steel o proposed that the following gentlemen be appointed a committee, with power to add to their number, to collect information, and piepare resolutions to be submitted to a public meeting on a date to be siftei\vaid3 fixed, relative to Increased steam communication: — Messrs. Jackson, Te Awamutu ; Goodfellow, Te Rore ; Scott, Paterangi ; Jlich, Oliaupo ; Douglas, Martin, Clark, Cambiidgii ;P. Leslie, Tamahere ; {Steele, McPheison, Beere, Woolly, Seddon, Hamilton; R.Sunp&on, Hume, Ngaruawahia; W. Buckland, .Smith, Hutton, and Thomas Morrin, Eacj , Auckland. Seconded by Pa. trick Leslie, Ebq,, and carried unanimously. — Moved by J. McPherson, Esq., J.P., and seconded by Pv Simpson, Esq. : "That the foregoing committee be authorised to appoint a future day to hold a mass-meeting of the settlers in the Waikato, for tho piapose of taking the necessaiy steps to initiate an association to watch over the political, agiicnltural, and genei al interests ot the delta.
