ANOTHER CASE OF DROWNING.

It ia our sad duty to have to chronicle another case of drowning which occurred yesterday afternoon off the North Head, by which a man named Charles Schoneman, m fisherman, was drowned. It appears from the statement of Eskenberg, the deceased'* cousin and mate, that they left the Wynyard Pier in their fishing cutter ' Echo ' about 11.30 yesterday morning, and owing to a northerly wind blowing at the time they had to beat down the harbour. The schooner ' Ivanhoe ' was also beating down at the same time on her way to Mangonui. About 1 o'clock both vessels were off the heads, the ' Echo ' on the starboard and the 'Ivanhoe ' on the port tack when they caino into colli« (ion, and 8ehoneman wai knocked overboard, and, having heavy boots on at the time, sank. The 'Ivanhoe' at once lowered a boat, and her crow did what they could to rescue the diowmng man, but without success. After searching for about half an hour Captain McGregor advised Eskenberg to jet urn to town and make known the accident to the police. The deceased \rns a single man about; thirty years of age, and hid only been in Auokland about twelve months. He was quite sober at the time of the occurrence, not being at all addioted to drink. We understand that the water police will go down to the , scene of the accident this morning to endeavour to recover the body.
