THE MARAETAI GOLD DISCOVERY.

_ Messrs. Trice Brothers have made con« eiderable progress in gold-prospecting ab Maraetai. The shaft has been sunk to a depth of 50 feet, and a drive carried in a distance of 40 feet, at which point a fresh lender has beea struck running north and south, and dipping towards the east, The stone is of a blue colour, and in composed of a i mixture of primary rock and quartz, with diversified lodes iuteraeoting it. Pyrites are not over-abundant in the stone. The quantity tested by Mr. Featon was lib , from which 14 grains of alloy wore extracted, the component parts of which were gold, silver, ■ copper, antimony, and free iron. Upon refiaing the mixture 2fe grains of pure gold were obtained, which would give a return , of between 11 and 12 ounces to the ton.
