Eounded Cape Colville on Wednesday night last at 6 p.m., and arrived in harbour as above. We have to thank Captain Thompson for Lyttelton papers to the day of sailing. Cargo: 18,200 bushels wheat, barley, and oats, j. S. Macfarlane (agont). A rumour was current in Christchuroh on the 13th that gold had been discovered in the Omi Creek, a confluent of the Waipara.

i We have Ghristchurck papers to the 15th, from which we take the following : —

NARROW ESCAPE FROM FIRE AT GREYMOUTH. AN INCENDIARY AT WORK, (FROM THE " WEST COAST TIMES," JULY 13.) Gbeymouth, Monday. A felonious attempt was mad© last night to set fire to the premises of Messrs. Sampson and Coolr, furniture dealers, in Tanner-street, and which, but for the prompt measures taken by members of the Fire Brigade, would have destroyed a whole block of buildings, and perhaps the whole of the town. The inhabitants of Qreymouth are greatly alarmed, and it is supposed by many that the disastrous fire which destroyed the blocks only a short time ago originated in the same manner, the fire having been kindled under the house, and burned through the floor of the billiardroom in the Melbourne Hotel, which was the place where fire was seen first. A meeting will be held by the leading business men of the town, and it is proposed to offer a reward for such information as will lead to the discovery of the perpetrators of this attempt.
