PROPOSED EXTENSION OF MILLSLANE.
We understand that a movement is on foot having for its object the extension of the thoroughfare known as Mills-lane, into Cus-tom-house-street. The project has been under consideration for some years, and at one time it was nearly being realised ; but the objection of one of the landowners, through property the proposed road must pass through, was an effectual barrier. The lane, at present, runs down to a point immediately in the rear of Mesirs. Thornton, Smith, and Eirth's mill, and the new buildings which are in course of erection on the site of the fire which occurred some months ago. To carry the thoroughfare "into Custom-house.street, it would be necessary to appropriate the lower portion of the allotment abutting on the back of the mill, aad to fill up the hollow between that point and Custom-house-street. It would also be necessary to obtain Mr. Grahame's consent to make the road through his allotment fronting Custom-house-street, and this we are informed he has expressed his willingness to give provided the General Government, which holds the frontage allotments further on towards Albert-street, will give him an equivalent quantity of land out of them. The projected road would materially enhance the value of the property abutting on it, and the matter is worth the attention of the parties interested. We beliere it is proposed to defray the cost of the work by means of contributions from the owners of property in that locality, supplemented by a grant from the city, and perhaps from the Government. !
