SHORTLAND TOWN ALLOTMENTS.-MEET-ING OF THE COMMITTEE.

A meeting of the committee appointed at the late meeting of the holders of allotments ia Shortland was held yesterday at the Pembroke Hotel. Mr. C. F. Mitchell was oalled to the chair. A obpy of tho firafc agreement between Dr. Pollen nnd Mr. Maokay on the one hand, and certain nativei, was then produced to the mesting, aad read by the Chairman. It was proposed by Mr. Nash, seconded by Mr. H. Cool ah ah, and oirned, "That, inasmuch as it was the intention of this committee on Monday evening last that Mr. Gr. M. O'Korke should bo retained on behalf of the holdera of allotments in Shortlarid, Mr. O'Rorke be now requested and instructed to proceed to Auckland to watch our interests until the close of the Native Lands Court, and to act on our behalf in conjunction with our deputies in Auckland, viz., Messrs. Wardell, Anthony, and Laisbley." , Mr. McGarkiole said it made no matter to them who were the native owners ; they had to deal only with the Government. If others gob the land than those hitherto acknowledged, of course the Government would h«tve to refund the money. Some conversation took place as to whether parties should be publioly cautioned not to enter into engage* ments wibh Mr. Maokay about leases, but it was agreed that no step should be taken in that way.
