The presence of gold, in the stone was proved by pounding * small quantify iv a mortar. Some very likely-looking leaders have been opened in previous workings, but the levels were too high, and the present operations are being carried on with a view to interseot the reefs nearly at the creek's level. The Giant's Causeway, six men's ground, Tararu Creek, cub a small leader in a drive * short time since, which has been followed in a T drive. The stone has a very good appearance. The Ballarat Hill Claim, six men's ground, is situated on the Kuranui spur. A shaft has been put down to a depth of fifty feet, and a drive entered to a considerable length, in wbioh a well-define d reef was found. The shareholders are now driving for the same reef at a lower level. When put into any distance they will bo some three hundred feet from the Burfaoe. The reef has been traced along the surface of the hill, and the shareholder are in hopes that it will be a branch from one of the rioh claims in the Kuranui Creek.
