Business regains very quiet, and in the absence of speculation and trade requirements fully supplied, prices generally exhibit a downward tendency , and, although the stocks in bond are heavier than those reported last mouth, still shipments are constantly coming forward. The arrivals during the week have oompiised the ♦ Prince Alfred,' barquentine, from Sydney, and the 'Rapido,' barque, from Liverpool, with general cargoes. '1 he auction sales have not been numerous. Mr. Stannua Jone3 quitted, under the haiumer, a considerable amount of general grocery and oilmen's •tores on Tuesday, at (slightly-reduced rates. Mr. B. Tonka held an anotion of teas and oilmen's stores, which was well attended ; and, although the bidding was far from Animated, yet the prices were generally Batisfaptory. Flax, in considerable quantities, ia coining forward, the bulk of which ia much better prepared, and realises readily, for cash, from £21 to £25 per ton, according to sample. The ( Countess of Kintore' has oleared for London, with a general cargo of flar, gum, &c, and we have no doubt that freights of colonial produce will be forthcoming regularly for shipment to the home market— the only difficulty at the present moment being the native question, whiob, we hope, under judicious management, will be speedily divested of its menacing aspect. Customs receipts to-day :— Duties, £483 5s Id ; light dues, £8 7s Id ; arms fees, 7s ; port charges, £1 13s Pd ; total, £493 13s 3d. Messrs. Samuel Coobrane and Son sold at the residence of R. Dacre, Esq., Emily Place, yesterday, the whole of his valuable household furniture, &c. There was a very large attendance, the bidding was spirited, and the prices realised were satisfactory. A pianoforte by Broad a ood and Sons, full oompass, brought £45 ; a smaller one by the same makers, 6| ootaves, sold for £25 ; drawing-room suite, £33 ; walnut oval table, £10 5s ; Sutherland table, £3 17s 6d; mahogany sideboard, £10 15s j sewing machine, by Thomas, £8 15s ; dining table, £4 ; dinner service, £5 5s ; gilt mirror, £3 17s 6d ; brass bedsteads, £11 10-i ; wardrobe, £7 ; wasbßtand, marble tops, £5 10a ; mahogany chest of drawers, £5 12s 6d ; single iron bedsteads, £2 5s to £2 10s , carpetp, 2s 6d to 4s per yard; hair mattresses, la 5d to 2a 6d per 1b; feathers, 2i 4d and 2s lid per lb. The plated ware and glass were very good, and were quitted at high prices.
