THE CASE OF CAPTAIN FARQUHAR.

We have been informed on what ought to be good authority that the difficulties that have arisen out of the arrest of Captain Farquhar have been amicably settled, and that no further proceedings will be taken in either of the two cross actions that have been commenced. It will be remembered that after the proceedings in the Supreme Court had lapsed owing to an informality in the service of the writ of habeas corpus, Captain Farquhar commenced an action in the District Court against Mr. Girdwood for the recovery of damages to the amount of £100, and £5 odd costs, for illegal arrest, &c. This was promptly followed up by Mr. Girdwood, who laid informations against Walter Far<!mhar and William Cook, charging them with illegally rescuing Captain Farquhar from custody. The latter case was to have been heard this morning, but < we are informed that neither party will put in an appearance, so that, the case must lapse. We are also given to understand that the action in the District Court will ,not be proceeded with. Oar informant also states that the dispute in reference to the schooner ' Falcon ' has been settled by arbitration, the vessel being awarded to Mr. Girdwood on .. payment of a certain sum by him. The result is said to be highly satisfactory to all parties.
