THE TAIL TAX.
To th« Editor of th» Daily Southern Cross. Sir,— l tike it as mainly a satisfactory letter subicribed l( R, J. Creighton" in your issue of to-day. Satisfactory, i.e., as far as it goes. Writer should, however, I think, have gone a step farther, and have done honourable deference to the representative principle, by assuring us of his full intention to promote the carrying of the motion which ii now on the Council lilt, standing over for a fortnight, pro total repeal of the Act condemned. Kight or wrong (about this wo have already had examination ad nauseam), indisputably about 90 per centum of the provincial political constituents strongly opposed that very extraordinary levy of £12,000. His keen hit at the assuming habit of parsons would no donbt be liked by the generality, but that about •• Gospel " would cause some demur. When writers condescend to enumerate, and deign to defail facts, it is particularly demanded that the "facts " be not fallacious, and the figures be right. — I am, &0., A Good Hatbb ov thb Bid Poll Tax, December 30, 1868.
