MINING MATTERS. — RETURNS FROM BATTERIES.
The Una Quartz-Crushing Company's battery I crushed fourteen tons of stone from the- Prince of' Wales Claim, which yielded something over seventy ouncei of gold. A quantity of stuff from the Eube of Edinburgh." Clfcim has also been put through this machine, which averaged, a little over three ounces to the ton. The battery is at present employed crushing for the Freeman's Bay Company's Claim, and also for Hunt's No. 2 Claim.. Souters battery has been stopped, for the purpose of harfng the Chilean mills and blanket tables re-set. One battery,'^started working yesterday, the alterations being completed, on the Golden Crown ■tuff. Harrison, Howard, and Co. 'a circular battery completed a crushing of 15 tons of atone for Messenger's^ Claim, which averaged 2oz. to the ton. A parcel of 26 tons has also been put through for the Long Drive Claim, which returned 1,1890z. of ama'gam. The battery is still employed crushing for thu Long Drive Claim, the shareholders of which opened a splendid golden leader in the drive from which the claim takes its name yesterday. The drive has been worked tiice the I.2th of August, 1867, without striking on anything payable until yesterday morning, when this leader was opened. Perry't battery is still employed crushing for the Whan Claim. Sixty-six ounces of gold were retorted yesterday, the result of four days' crushing la9t week. The Victoria battery has been employed since last report on the Eureka stuff, the first sixty tons of which yielded three hundred and thirty -three ounce 3 Of gold. The battery is still employed] crushing for this claim. The shareholders of the Pai Marire Claim got nineteen ounces, the result of a crushing of forty pounds of stone. The shareholders of the JRising Sun alao got 260z. Sdwfc "from one hundred and fiftasn pound* of stone. By far the most interesting onuhings at this battery for the last week hare been from two new claims. One of them,* the Mountain Flower, yielded four ounces eleven pennyweights of gold from a ton of stone. The other, the North Devon, yielded seven ounces of gold to tha ton. The shareholder* of the last-mentioned claim have cnt the reef at a level, ninetj feet lower than that part; which is exposed on the surface, and at this l«vel it measures four feet in thickness. Tha new tight-stamper battery lately added to thu machine has started work ; the one-stamper is also crushing, and these added to the original battery make in all twenty-one head, which are all in full play. The Kuranui Company's new battery has completed a crashing for the Carpenter's Claim, which, however, is not yet cleaned up. The battery it now at work for the company by whom it is owned.
