A CRICKET MATCH.
A Cricket match was played yesterday between the Thames Cricket Club and the Auckland City Club. The weather was all that could be desired, and a good match was anticipated, but owing to mismanagement some of the best players were absent on the part of the Auckland Cricket Club. The Auckland Club were the first to handle the willow, and were represented by Messrs. Taylor and Babb. Taylor was quickly deposed of, boiDg run out without scoring. Babb made 1, and was caught by Alpe. After scoring 9, Bradshaw retired, being leg before wicket. Mutnford was unfortunate, but managed to obtain 12 by some excellent hits. The remaining part of the eleven were quickly disposed of, with the exception of Keleher, wbo played a careful innings of 19. Considering the small amount of practice the Thames Eleven have had, their fielding was considered very good. Magan and Clayworth took possession of the criokets on behalf of the Thames Cricket Club, the former being unfortunate and only getting 3 runs. The latter scored 10 by some good play. Johnson was certainly the " crack " of the day, and obtained 68 runs in a style not often witnessed on the Auckland ground. Alpe w»s " all there " as usual, and could not be disposed of until he had made 22. Bond and Bobinson were the only others who obtained double figures ; the former made 29, and the latter 11. The bowhug of Robinson,on behalf of the Thames Club, was excellent ; and that of Messrs. Horan and Bowen, for the Auckland Cricket Club, not so good as expected.
