NEW ZEALAND GAZETTES.
The following is an abstract of the contents of a New Zealand Gazette, published in Wellington on the BlBt of October :— Provision is made by an order in Council f Qr set* ting aside, aa reserves for public purposes, land within the limits of the Bay of Islands Settlement Act. The Governor delegates to James Heofcor, Esq.,' M.D., Manager of the Geological Survey, all hit powers under the Public Domains Act in reference to the ground known as the Botanical Garden Reserve in the city of Wellineton. The fpiece ,of land below described is ezcepted from sale, and reserved to the use of h«r Majesty, as sites for public building! or other purposes of the General Government : — All t «hat piece or parcel of land lying between high-water and low-water mark on the eastern shore of the Frith of the Thames, from the mouth of the Tararu rivw to the mouth of the Kauwaeranga river. Letters patent have besn granted to Alexander Hamilton, James Ailcmin, and James Gedde*, of Mortlake, ia the colony of Victoria, " for an inven? tion or improvement for washing wo >l snow-white; on the sheep* back." The following notice is published as to the adopt tion of a uniform time throughout the colony :—: — " Colonial Secretary's Office, " Wellington, October 30, 1868, "In accordance with a resolution of the House of Representatives to the effect that New Zealand mean time be adopted throughout the colony, it is hereby notified for publio information that the time corresponding to the loDgitude of 172 30 E. from Greenwich — which is exactly 114 hours in advance of Greenwich time — has been adopted as the mean time for the colony ; and that from and after the 2nd November the publio offices of the General Government will be opened and cloied in accordance therewith. "£. W. Stafj-jbd." The Aot " declaring the powers of the Genera} Assembly of New Zealand to abolish any province in that colony, or to withdraw from any such province any part of the territory thereof/ is published for general information. A circular is also printed, which has been for* warded from the Colonial Office, which states that, whenever a naval cadet is proposed, certain particulars respecting the circumstances and position of the candidate's family are required. Notices respecting an alteration in the Manukau lur, tuad a sunken rock between Cape Foulwind and the River Buller, are published, and will be found at length in our shipping columns.
