NELSON. October 6.
Trade remains ia the ume dull state in which it has stood for several months past, and although circumstances may occur that would speedily work a change for the better, there is nothing at this moment to justify our holding oat any such promise. The removal of large bodies of miners from the West Coast to Auckland, the exceeding richness of the reefs at the Thames being the attraction, has greatly lessened consumption on our goldfields, and trade has consequently suffered. It is believed the exodus has now ceased, as, although many of the reefs at the Thames have turned out remarkably well, yet in the absence of alluvial diggings it is impossible the population which has been attracted to Auckland cad find employment there. Already symptoms are exhibited by a large number of men of » desire to return to the West Coast. The stock of goods in firat hands is sufficient for present requirements, and the 'Polar Star,' now due, if ill on arrival supply any deficiencies. — Examiner.
