MINING MATTERS AT THE THAMES.
{IROMTHE "THAMES ADVERTISES*' OT YtSTBRD V.) A preliminary meeting of the shareholders of the under-mentioned claims was held at Butt's Hotel, og I uesday evening lust, for the purpoie of foriuing them into » company, uud»r the Mining Act. The company is to be called the Auokland Gold-Mining Company. The names of the different olaims to 1 be amalgamated, all o£ which are situlated * on 'the Moanatai»ri Creek, are as follow:—Young C*led j>* donian, American Eagle, Kyber Pass' Nos. land 2, Thistle, Scotia, Star of the West, Buckle's M6untain, Midnight Watcb, Crown, and Moas Rose. Some very excellent specimen stone taken from the Mount Pleasant Claim, on the Hape Creek, has been on view in Mr. O'Keeffe's office window,'Pollenstreet, for several days past. These speoimens were only taken out during the latter portion of last week, and we were at first at a loss to imagine how the recent crushing from this claim ma&e- at iGibbons's machine, on the K*raka, should hare turne* out so indifferently considering the fact that the stone crushed came from the'same leader. The result of the crushing can now readily be accounted for when we state that one of the shareholders in the claim himself informed us that, at the crushing, a bucket containing a large amount of amalgam was carelessly thrown away by mistake, by one of the shareholders who was present at the machine whilst the stone was being crushed. The Panmure Claim, four men's ground, is situated in the Moanataiari Creek, immediately behind tile Victoriai Quarbz-Crushing Company 1 * machine. A shaft, 25 feet in depth, traces a leader down the entire distance, which varies in thickness from 6 inohes to 2 feet. Two drives have been entered from the shaft, 50 and 60 feet respectively, in opposite directions, upon the leader from which stone i» taken out. In all, about 25 tons of the contents of this leader have been crashed at the Vfctoria battery, with very handsome results. About April last the fiist crushing of 10 tons took place, the yield being 530z., or nearly sJfeoz. to the ton, and siuce then •15 tons have produced 650z. A prospecting drive has also been excavated along the Hobson Park boundary, in which one leader was crossed about 6 inches in thickuess j frona . the mullock surrounding wh'ch a very good prospect was obtained. Twelve pounds' weight of spec men stone has been crushed from this claim at the Victuna berdan, with a splendid yield of 21<>z A lower drive has just been commenced, .tracing a branch from the main leader, out of wh»ch ei«ht 6r oine pounds' weight of specimen «ton« hat ibeen taken. This claim is admirably situated with regard to'machmery, the'working befing only a few -yaVds distant from the Victoria battery,, and a jtramway conveys the stuff readily to} the machine, the shareholders in this claim speak most highly of the Victoria battery as admirably suitnd for ihe purposes for which it ha« been erected.
