PUBLIC MEETING AT TAPU.

A MEETING, convened by public notice, was Held, this day, at 3 p.m., in fiont of the "Duke of Edinburgh Hotel. There was » fair attendance of miners present. The meeting was addie se>l hy Mr. F. .Whitehead, a: miner, who stated that he had called the. meeting, with a view, of removing the i .apparent blame attaching to the diggers at the Thames ; , goljdfkld, , owing, to there not being , aufficienj., funds, forthcoming to erect and maintain a' hospital for this goldfi-la. As Tapu had not yet taken part 'in ' the matter — which had been originated and c*rrie<l to , the present time in * ShortlaW — the present meeting would give them 'an opportunity of aiding in this good work. He win in communication with the Executive Committee in Shortland, and stated the views on the ' matter entertained by those gentlemen, urging upon all present to become subscribers, bo as to enjoy the benefits such an institution afforded. l£c F. Whitehead was unanimously voted to the° chair, when the following resolutions .were unanimously carried :— l. " That, in "the opinion of thi* meeting, it is the interest of the miners, as also that of the general community, ' to wsist in the completion of the Thame* Diggers' Hospital, and supporting of the same." Moved by Ttflrj Weyergang, seconded by Mr. Littlejohn.— 2. "That all presents this meeting believe a hospital on the Thames goldfield to be highly necessary, and y«py r lbenefieial, where by a. nominal subscription, payable' 'quarterly, half-yearly, or annually, every subscriber l can , purchase the privileges of such hospital for the' prescribed period." "That this meeting pledges itself to asiist in carrying out the oojecfc of the last resolution— viz., to assist in the completion and supporting of the Diggers' Hospital."
