At ft meeting of this Society, held at the Criterion ' -Hotel cool Tuesday last, the under-mentioned resolulutions were pasted uuanimonsly. Mr. F. C. Lewis occupied the chair. There was a large attendance, 'and alto, several visitors,, who were evidently attracted, iby, the importance of the subject that was to be discnssed. i" Proposed 'by Mr. J. Vkbcob, seconded by Mr. T. ShuHikd, " That it is desirable that immediate steps- be taken <tj prevent the imp.irtatiou of live, cattle into. this prorince from the Auntialian colonies Or any other place where the disease of pleuro-pneu-monia is known to exivt." — Carried. i Proposed' by Mr. J. Vercob, seconded by Mr. R. MoGrKcj ''That the following gentlemen be ap pointed a -deputation to wait upon the Provincial J: Government to represent the views of the Society on this' subject, viz., Messrs. P. C. Lewi*, James "Wallace, James Runciman, John Wallace (No. 2), W. T. Bftssett, J. Shipherd, the Secretary, and the mover. "—Carried. > ■Moved by Jamxs B.TOOIMA.N, seconded by H. D. Badlet, "That the Society desires to have the public support in the prevention of the landing of cattle from the Australian colonies or elsewhere where the disease known as pleuro-pneumonia is known to exist ; and that a public meeting be called, to be held on Thursday, the 15th inst., at the Kemuera Sale Yards, at 11.30 a.m." — Carried. Proposed by Mr. It. D. Badlky, seconded by Mr. J. Shiphbbd, "That Messrs. J. C. Lewis, James WalUce,James Runcimaß, John Wallace (No. 2), J. Shipherd, W. J. Bassett, J. Vercoe, and the Secretary^ be a committee to draw up resolutions to be submitted -to' the publ c meeting to be held on Thursday next "— Carried. The meeting then separated.
