NOTICES TO CORRESPONDENTS.

" Ratepayer," Upper Mah.ur&ngi, has not aupplied his name. J.A J. — We admit that the entire contents of the letter were not published in consequence of some portions having been anticipated The result of the Maori election has appeared in our columns. As Explanation.— Mr. James Kinsella writes a long letter in .explanation of a purely personal matter, for which we should gladly have found mom if we had not been prevented by a heavy press of local matter. We give the gist of his communication :— "ln a letter printed in conspicuous t>pe in the Southern Cross of this morning, and signed ' Charles Montrose,' there occurs the following sentence :—: — 'I .showed the duplicate in the strictest confidence, and with a promise of secrecr on his part, to a fellow reporter — Mr. James Kinsella -from whom his employer succeeded in eliciting th« purport of its contents.' Parts of this sentence are utterly untrue ; there was no such thing as the ' strictest Conttdence ' enjoined nor did ' his employer succeed in eliciting the purport of its contents,' as the employer knew all about it. The assertion is an absolute, wilful, deliberate and unmitigated — story. Ido assure you the whole hentence i« a misrepresentation. Mr Montrose showed me the agreement about which so much has been said, but there was no secrecy implied beyond what was necessary to en*bla him to be the first to communiCnte the mtel igenoe of hit Appointment and the content* of the agreement to Mr Wilson. lam able to -ay thai Mr. Wilson was perfectly informed as to the agreement and its contents before I said a word to him."
