The Enterprise No. 2 arrived from the Thames last nighf, with 53 passengers, and about 1,000 oz. • of gold. She left Auckland at twenty minutes to 8 a.m., arriving »t Sbortland at 1.30 p.m. ; left again at 2.30 p.m., and landed her passengers on the Queen-streeb Wharf at balf-past 8 the same evening. Information was brought by her that the Avon, Captain Murray, which left this port for Shortland on Monday last, heavily laden with stores, has not. since been heard of We hope that the fears entertained for her safety may be dispelled on the return of the next steamer from the goldnelds. The cutter Dawn arrived from Waipu yesterday) with 18 head of cattle, consigned to Meairs. Hunter *nd Co.
Tbe Ocean Wave, now discharging her cargo alongside the third T, will probably sail for Lyttelton tomorrow or on Monday. The well-known cutter Tay leaves for Matakana to-day. The schooner Kauri, Captain Sayce, will sail on Monday for Tahiti and the South Sea Islands, with 3,000 bricks, 20 oil casks, 6 cases of prints, and sundries.— H. M. Jervis, agent.

ARRIVAL OF THE BARQUE ETHAN ALLEN. The barque that was signalled at 11 o'clock yesterday morning proved to be the American vessel Ethan AlleD, 395 tons, friend, master, from San Francisco, out 48 days. She left on the 13th of March, and experienced fine weather throughout the passage up to the last four or fife days, during which time she lay southward of Cape Brett against » strong southerly wind. She brings a cargo of 6,629 sacks of wheat, consign* d to Mewsis. Thornton, Smith, and Firt"\ ; and 200 barrels of salm<>n, and 80 barrels of flour, consigned to Captain Friend. Did not speak or sight any vest>ela during the passage, except two whalers going into the Bay of Inlands. Reports the batque Kate to be loading for Sydney with a full cargo of flour when she left, and to sail on the 15th. The Ethan Allen is a fine barque, with excellent cabin accommodation, but none of her bertha have been engag-d. bhe brings later Califomian files, and tbe folio wing steeragp passengers: — W. ARRIVAL OF THE STORT PROM THE BAY OF ISLANDS. The Government paddle steamer Ptmt, Captain JBVdi child, arrived at the Wynyard Pier yesterday afternoon, at 2 o'clock, from the Bay of Islands. She left the Bay about a quarter past 11 o'clock p.m. on Tuesday, and went mto 4 Whangarei at B a.m. the following day. Started again at 7 o'clock on Wednesday evening, and put in at the Kawau during the night ; 1- ft at 10 ye^erday, and arrived as above. 3he reports the whalers James Arnold, Melton, B .rbholoraew Gosnold, and -* braham Barker lying in the Bay 1 >den with oil, to be transhipped into the barque Jfimpres", whose departure is delayed fur a few -weeks. The Emma C Jones left Russell on Tuesday with a full cargo of whale oil, the Empress not being able to contain any more. Paused the schooner Onward outaide the Bay on tho 28th ulb. She brings the following passengers ; — The Hon, J. C. Richmond, Commissioner of Customs ; Mr. Seed, Mr. Busby, Major Paul ; Captaiu Wright, American consul ; Mr. MonisoD, agent for th* Imperial Government; Mr. Russell, the new native M.H X.; Dr. Hector, Mr. Brown, Mr. Hague, and Mr. Coates.
SAILING MATCH. A mutch for £25 a side will take place to-day at 12 o'clock, between the cutter Betsy, 25 tons, John Trimmer, and the Alarm, 30 tons, Seymour. The challenge was thrown out by the Bdfay on Wednesday, after the regatta, to run any vessel in p rt over 20 tnni, and was taken up yesterday by the Alarm, Captain Seymour depositing the required sum in the hands of Mr. Ryne, of the Metropolitan Hotel, where it will he covered this morning at hi»lfpast 8, by Captain Trimmer, by a similar sum, and preliminaries arranged. It will be n membered that m the sixth race, for trading vessels over 20 tons, the AJarm came in second, and the Betsy fourth, both having during the contest sustained damage to their saila. The race to-day will be on the same course, and commence at the end of the Queen -street Wharf. Heavy betting has already taken i>lac*», the Alarm finding the most supporters. Both have proved themselves to be fast vessels, and an exciting contest is anticipated, We also underscand that the crew of the winning four-oared gig, New Chum, Dalton, have accepted the challenge of the second gig, Old Chum, Fletcher, to change boats and row for £20 to-day. The race will take place about 2 p.m.
