RELIGIOUS MEMORANDA. [From April 2 to April 10.]
The anniversary sermons were preaohed on April 5 in the PitMtreet Weslejan Chapel in aid of the Sunday-school. Three services were held, and the officiating ministers were — the Key. Mr. Clarke, Hab»rt Town; the Rev. Mr. Dean, and the Key. James Hill. The collections taken up at the close of the services amounted to £10 16s. 4d. A special thanksgiving service for the merciful preservation of his .Royal Highness Prince Alfred, and to supplicate for a continuation of divine mercies to ;his Royal Higbneis and all the Royal Family, was i held' on April 3 at the Hebrew Synagogue, Emfly Place. J SS A moist-interesting soire"e was held on April 7 in tbe/iPht-atwet Chapel^ at a testimony of respect to the[Re>. JY Waliis, who, after a period of .thirty-five years •pent in, the work of a missionary or minister in New Zealand, retires to what is called the supernumerary list. The Rev. J. Buller occupied the chain* and thfe meeting was- addressed by' Mr. E. HqbJv, Mr. TV-Rus^ll, Mr. French, Mr. Couplaod, andMr.WaUis. , •The annual iitea meeting and soiree of the'Wel-Hngtod-street Presbyterian Church took place on Wednesday at the church,-' and drew together a very large assemblage of member* of the congregation and othw'-miflds. . The Rsv. James Hill occupied the chair: 7 Several' interesting addresses were delivered byrj clergymen and' other gentlemen ; and the very efljcjentichoir in attendance, under the direction of Miv E. Publio worship hao been conducted for upwards of two years in the Lake Ohurch by clergymen of all denominations. At 6 o'clock the com--pany sat down to tea, but, as the church was too small to'acoomtnodate the assembly at once, two tables had to. T)e -laid. Harper was set apart to the full exercise of the duties of the Christian ministry. The ministers presiding were the Rev. J. Buller, Bey. J. Waliis, Rev. J. Warren, Rev. J. Whewell, Rev. J. Hobbs. The annual meeting of the Congregational Home Mission was held on April 8, at the Newton Congregational Church. The attendance was not very forge, Mr. W. C. Daldy. occupied the chair.
