AUCKLAND LIV E STOCK MARKET. [Reports for week ending March 27.]
MR. BUCKLAND'S REPORT. At the Haymarket on Saturday fodder^ was in usual inquiry, and without variation in price ; rye grass seed brought from 2a to 3s ; cocksfoot, 6s 6d ; Cape barley, 3s 6d ; and oats, 3s 6d the bushel. A superior draught mare, £30 ; medium draught horse stock, from £6 10s to £14 ; hacks, from 40s. At Hendersons Mill on Wednesday about 70 head of cattle were penned, and above 60 head sold ; there was » numerous attendance, and good prices ruled. The sale held at Waiuku on Wednesday was but thinly supplied with stock, not half as many as usual ; the attendance more limited. For the stock brought forward there was good competition, and the prices obtained were in advance of those ruling nearer Auckland. Leicester lambs, equal sexes, brought 14s 6d each ; dairy cows from £9 12s 6d to £14 ; calves, 35s to 425 ; yearlings, 75s each. At Kemuera on Thursday, dairy cattle at their calving were in better request. Store cattle offered sparingly, and were also in better inquiry. Fat cattle were in moderate supply, and met with a very irregular market j but the average price obtained was higher than that of last week. For breeding ewes there was a good inquiry, and all offered were sold at a considerable advance over last week's prices. Fat sheep of good quality were better worth, but middling quality were comparatively unsaleable. Few pigs were penned; small-sized porkera, fit for slaughter, sell higher than other descriptions of stock. VT. HUNTER AND CO.'S REPORT. On Saturday last there was a good number of horses j nearly all were sold. Good hacks Bold from £7 5s to £12 5s each ; draught horses, from £9 10s to £12 each. Some good oats, from Whangarei, sold from 3s 9d to 4s 6d per bushel. On Tuesday last, at Newmarket, there was a good number of cattle ; the greater part were sold. Dairy cows were scarce ; they sold from £9 10s to £11 12s 6d • backward springers, from £7 10s to £8 12s 6d each. Of store cattle there was a good number ; two-year-old steers, £4 2s 6d each ; three-year-old steers, from £5 7s 6d to £6 7s 6d ; calves, £2 6s each j two-year-old heifers, from. £4 15s to £5 10s each. Fat Cattle : There was a fair supply ; all iv were sold at from 30s to 35a per 1001b. Sheep Market : There was a good number of sheep j half-breds sold from 14a to 22s 6d. There were no lambs in the market. Pig Market: There were very fewj all in were , sold at good prices. Waiuku Sale : On Wednesday last there were very few cattle j nearly all in were sold. Dairy cows were scaroe ; they sold from £9 to £9 103 each ; two-year-old steers sold from £3 12s 6d to £4 2s 6d ; calves, from £1 2s 6d to £2 2s 6d each. There was a good number of pigs, which sold at good prices.
