ONEHUNGA. PROPOSED ADDRESS TO HIS EXCELLENCY THE GOVERNOR. (FROM OUR ONEHUNGA REPORTER.) April 1.
A.N influential meeting of tbe people of this town was held last evening in the Court-bouse Hotel (Mn Stark's), for the purpoge of considering: and adopting an address of 'congratulation to his Excellency the Governor, Sir George Ferguson Bowen, G.U.M.G.j and Lady Bowen, on their arrival in Auckland. On the motion of Mr. H. P. >takk, seconded by Captain Christie, it was unanimously resolved, ' ' That it; is desirable that an address of congratular tion be presented to hig Excellency Sir G. Bowen on his arrival in the colony." On the motion of Mr. Codlin, the following resolution was adopted ; — "That a committee be appointed to carry out the provisions of the foregoing resolution, consisting of Captain Symondp* Drj Nicholson, Messrs, Brookfleld, O'Rorke, Stark, Christie, Roe, Mclntyre, Q, Fleming, W. Davies; Reid,Codlin, and Rev. A. G. Purchase with power to add to their number, five to form a quorum.'? Several gentlemen addressed the meeting ia support of the above resolution. The committee will meet on Friday evening next at the same place, to prepare the address. A deputal tion has been appointe i to wait on his Excellency the Governor, to ascertain whether his Excellency will visit Onehunga to receive the addres?, or prefers itß presentation at Government House.
