A Provincial Government Gazette was published yMterday, containing a notification that the Superintendent hud osserved the Auckland and Drury Railway Act, 1368, for the signification of, the, Governor '• pleasure thereon ; and that he- had assented, on behalf of the Governor, to the Auckland Salt- Water Bath Company Lease Act, 1868> and the Hospital Endowment Empowering Act, 1868. Notice is also given of the prorogation of the Provincial Council. Another Gazette ■ was issued yesterday evening proclaiming the town of Shortland to be a slaughterhouse district, and defining the boundaries. The premises situated at ' Karaka Creek, erected by Mr. William Walters, of Auckland, and the premises situated at Waiwhaka-urunga, erected by Messrs. George ' MoLeod and Struan Robertson, are to be respectively public slaughterhouses for the said district within the meaning 1 of the Act. The Highways Act, 1867, is brought into operation in the districts, of the North Shore and Maketu, and the firatijneetings of the electors are to take place at the residence of Mr. Smith, at Stokes's , Point,, on Monday, the 16th day of March initant, at twelve, o'clock noon'; and at . the Presbyteria* ' Church, Ramarama, Great South Road, on the same day and hour. , > u ! _'lh« Superintendent's powers under the fourth} fifth, and ninth sections of the Thistle Act, 1358, are delegated to the Highway Trustees of the { Wairoa district. , - • ' Mr. Joseph Gane has been elected as a Highway' Trustee for the Utahuhu district, in the room of Mr. James P. King, rt signed ; and Mr. J. S. Mellsophas been appointed collector and secretary to the Waiuku Highway Board. Mr. Hoberfc McVeagh has been, appointed ferryman at Cambridge, in the place of William Murphy, resigned. [ ' Crown grants, in favour of persons whose names are given, are now ready for delivery at the office of the .Registrar of Deeds, High-street, Auckland, i The assessment list for the Papatoetoe Highway Djstriot, at Is. per acre, is given ; and for the Hunua Highway District, at 3d. per acre ; for the district of Paparoa (parish of Pakuranßa),; at 3d. per acre; for the Kaukapakapa District, at 3d. per acre. Objections to the above assessments are to be heard by the trustees of the respective districts as follow { — Papatoetoe, at the Criterion Hotel, Otahuhu, on the 7th April, from 3 to 4 p m.; Hunua, at the Papakura Hotel j, .
