A DAILY FAILURE.

In the establishment of this journal an experiment w»s carried into effect, which, we believed, would supply a want hitherto frequently expressed, and which formed somewhat of a reproach to this province. The demand for a morning journal has. we have now proved, been an unreasonable one, and one which the mercantile community are not prepared to support to the extent which alone can warrant its daily appearance. To retrace our steps is never consonant with those natural feelings of complacency and pride -with which we regard a plan that has cost us great labour, and wherein our greatest interest lies; but when proof is afforded. that such a de-ign, possibly through want of sufficient consideration or in hasty judginent, cannofc be carried to a successful issue, it will only prove the po9cetsion of still less judgment and qualities which would preclude success in any mercantile undertaking, if we refuse to recognise our error, and after our course in time. From this date the Neio Zealand Times] will appear as a tri-weekly journal, and, in making the change, it is with a conviction, on practical grounds, that this province is not yet prepared to support the enterprise of a daily newspaper. At some not distant period possibly the want may become sufficiently tprat to warrant its establishment, but without the concurrence of business men, to whom a newspaper is as much to the necessity as their support is to its success, we cannot pretend to Bupply it. To subscribers we would say that they shall not suffer by the change ; the less frequent issue will allow us to present them with a more complete and carefully prepared record of passing events, and we trust that our country friends, more especially as the delivery to them of a daily paper is a matter of constant difficulty and disappointment, will not now withhold the supporb which we shall endeavour to 'deserve and to rebain. — New Zealand (Wellington) Times, October 21 .
