FIRE AT ONEHUNGA. (FROM OUR OWN CORRESPONDENT.)

A TIKE took place about 9 p.m. on Wednesday night by -which a cottage, situated in Princes-street, was totally destroyed. The. cottage was unoccupied, and how the fire occurred is quite a mystery. The house wa* the property of Mr. 0. Moore, and was insured in the office of the Eoyal Insurance Com* pany for the sum of £45. Another cottage, adjoining, was in imminent danger of being burnt, and was several times on f|re, but, owing to $be exertions pi the people present, and there being a good supply of water, it was saved from destruction. A supply of buckets, and a few ropes, hooks, and ladders are sadly wanted in Onehunga; and we are quite sure that the insurance offices would saye a }"ge sum annually by providing the necessary appliances for extinguishing fire, or for pulling down a house if required. We believe a considerable sum of money was subscribed by the inhabitants of the town about a year ago, for the purpose of erecting a fire-bell and establishing a fire brigade ; but the matter was allowed to fall through, and what became of th money subscribed is, like the origin of fires, involved in mystery,
