HOKIANG.'A. (FROM OUR OWN CORRESPONDENT.) July 15.

On Wednesday morning, about fivt^ ©clock, William Pyecroft, cook and steward oi the barque •Lion,' fell overboard while drawing & bucket of water. It was quite dark at the time, anu 1 tlle ebbtide, with a strong wind out, prevented thv possibility of reicue, although a boat was lowers d and every exertion mmde. 'lhe body has not yet be l n found, and has probably been carried out to sea. ile left a wife and child in Sydney. Last week, a dingy, covered with barnacles, drifteu 1 ashore near the Heads. On the seats is branded •• I, W. Carr." The length is 14 feet ; beam, 4 feet 10 inches ; and inside depth, 2 feefc. Probably this de» ■caption may afford a clue to some lost vessel. The favourite olipper barque 'Lion,' Captain Howard, tailed for Sydney, at high water, on the 14th inst., with a full cargo of spars, junk, and sawn timber, and several passengers. The ' Cambodia' is daily expected from the Manukau. Her long detention there is not calculated to give ship-owners a favourable opinion of our provincial facilities for repairing vessels. A cargo of spars, junk, and kauri gum is ready for her, and no unreasonable detention will be experienced in Hokianga, if she is delayed in the Manukau for an extended period. I expect this season's wool-clip will be forwarded by her, as she proceeds to England according to charter.
