IGNORANCE AND INSOLENCE.

To th« Editor of the Dailt Southern Ckoss. j Sir, — For some time past your correspondence columns have been so free from anonymous abuse, that I was rather surprised to see inserted the letter signed " A Layman. "' This "Layman" is so well acquainted with the matter on which he writes that, because a gentleman named Edger, whom I hare not the pleasure o£ knowing, is managing the farm at the Three Kings, he thinks it must be myself. Of course, he is as well informed on all other points, and, therefore, is not likely either to be a dupe himself or to make dupes of others. Be that as it may, if, next time he writes in a similar strain, he has the courage to sign his real name, he will show himself to be a man, of which, at present, there is no evidence. My object in writing now is once more to suggest that you would confer a benefit on the public i£ you would require all persons, who desire to exhibit themselves in this manner, to do it in their own proper person. In this opinion I am sure all your intelligent readers will concur. It is j below the dignity of a public journal like the Dailt I Southern Cross, as well as an injury to the tone of public feeling, to sanction anything like anonymous slander.— l am, &c, Parnell, April 29, 1867. Samuel Edger. P.S. — I shall henceforth decline taking any notice of anonymous letters. [Whilst agreeing with our correspondent in the main, we do not think that anonymous correspondence should be altogether excluded. — Ed. D.S.O.]
