To the Editor of the Datlt Southern Cross. Sir, — A correspondent yesterday, who signed himself " A Catholic Parent," delivers a lecture to the youngster who wrote to yon a few days ago about the orphanage at the Lake known as the College. The major part of his letter has nothing to do with the inquiry 'of your first correspondent. But, having accepted j them, it is only right of your correspondent and the public to ask how they have been disposed of, Allow me to ask the following questions :—: — 1. What was the nature of the endowment given to St. Mary's College by Sir George Grey ? 2. What is the number of children now maintained out of this endowment, and the capitation grant from the General and Provincial Governments ? 3. Why were these seventeen children turned out of the institution helpless into the streets ? £. What is the income and expenditure of the institute for £h£ year 1366 1 .5. Who recejves't'be^oyernittent money, and how is it dispoied of ? ' , '7 " * ' * , 6-. Whai |s foe arrangement with the manager of W»8 institution as to the maintenance of the children? Perhaps " A Catholic Parent " can afford a' little information on these points to several members of hfa Church.
