PORT ALBERT. (FROM OUR OWN CORRESPONDENT.) April 22.

During the past few weeks a number of young men connected with this settlement have met together to discass the advisability of forming a literary club, or mutual-improrement society. About a fortnight since other friends were invited, and a public meeting took place : members were enrolled and rules passed — one of which provides for the admission of ladies. A house, situated in Marketstreet, has been arranged for, and the first object of the members will be to form a reading-room, a library, and a discussion class — the meetings of which are to be held monthly. Several papers are already promised. It was also decided to have a social tea party, for members and friends, to take place on Good Friday, when about thirty persons sat down to a good and substantial tea, equal to any that has yet been provided in this settlement. Mrs. G. Plummer, Mrs. Stevens, and Mrs. Day presided at the tables, while ample justice was done to all the good things provided on this occasion. After the tables were removed, a meeting was held in the chapel, for the purpoie of stating more fully the objects of the society. Mr. Elliott occupied the chair, while Messrs. Hartnell, Plummer, and Gubb addressed the meeting on the advantages that would result from the success of a society rach as the one inaugurated that day. Mr. Guhb gave several selections on the harmonium, and the meeting closed about niue o'clock.
