TREMENDOUS EXCITEMENT AT DUNEDIN. THREATENED IMPEACHMENT OF MR. STAFFORD. Dunedin, April 22.
Dunedik is almost in a state of insurrection m consequence of the appointment of Mr. Bradshaw. The Executive meets to-day, and the citizeni mv patiently await their decision. The press denounces the action of the General Government. All sorts of wild rumours are current, such as : — Bradsbaw is to be escorted out of town ; the volunteers are to resign en masse; every citizen i« to become a special constable ; Stafford is to be im« peached for high treason, for inciting the Otagans to open rebellion ; Port Chalmers is to be declared a fre« port ; the Queen and the Imperial Parliament are to be appealed to. Bradshaw'a antecedents and utter incapacity are also a source oE excitement, it being supposed that his insignificance, socially and politically, is the principal cause of his being invested with his present power, so that the insult to Otago may be felt all the more keenly.
