THE ELECTIONS.
The coming elections are not at all likely to be the tame affairs we hare been accustomed to of late. The seat for City West, in the Provincial Council, will be contested by Messrs. J. A. Gilfillan and C. F. Mitchell. The Northern Division is likely to be contested by Messrs. Morrow, E. C. Dyer, and Allan O'Neill. Eaglan is addressed by Mr, Henry Chainberlin. A requisition is in course of signature to Mr. James Farmer; and Mr. William Goodfellow has also been spoken of for the same division. We have heard Mr. Powditch spoken of as a probable candidate for Onehunga, in the room of Mr. Kirkwood, whose seat is vacant by law. And here we would invite the Provincial Government to declare Mr. Kirkwoods seat for Onehunga vacant at once, and issue a writ to complete the return of members to the Council. His seat is clearly forfeited, and it is as well to to have the roll of the Council filled up, Mr. Powditch is an old and tried servant of Onehunga, and we think it would only be a graceful act on the part of the constituents to return him unanimously. It is said that a vacancy is likely to be created for Parnell, by the resignation of Mr. Whitaker ; and Mr. William Howes name has been mentioned as a probable candidate in the event of a resignation.
