TURKEY.
The Viceroy of Egypt has demanded the right of assuming the title of Caliph of Egypt, of striking coin in his own name, of increasing the strength of the Egyptian army to 100,000, and of appointing officers to the highest rank of Mioskir. These demands are considered equivalent to a proclamation of Egyptian independence of the Porte. A modification has been effected in the Turkish Ministry. The insurrection in Crete was practically suppressed, but guerilla warfare continues.
