DRUNKENNESS. John M icicles was punished in the usual manner for this offence.
VACBANCY. William Samuels was charged by Ephraim Mills with being a vagrant. The Bench discharged the prisoner, he having already suffered three days' imprisonment.
LARCENT. Edward Standring pleaded guilty to stealing a silver lever watch, value £5, the property of one Edhouse, from the Military Hospital at Tauranga, and was sentenced to four months' imprisonment with hard labour.
DESERTERS. Robert "Ward and John Gleeson were charged with desertion from the 57th Regiment. The former pleaded guilty. The latter stated that he was simply absent without leave. He refused to sign the return, although it was explained that an entry mka made to the effect that he said he was not a deserter, and that, therefore, his signature to the document would not unfavourably affect him. They were ordered to be handed over to the military authorities.
