TAURANGA.
Thb following reference to the progress of Tauranga appears in our occasional correspondent's letter, which we have hitherto been unable to publish ;— " Though the times are very discouraging to enterprise, still we have a few spirited men amongft us, ] who imagine and believe that better times are, coming, and amongst these ,is J. Chad wick, Esq., whose determination has been not only to invest' but to settle down amongst us. He has erected a, most commodious warehouse, two storeys high; the size is 50 x 26 ; the lower floor is divided into I store, manager's room, and offices ; the upper floor is all in one. The material used is all, of sound timber. The design, which is very creditable, is that of Header Wood, Eeq., and the builders are that celebrated firm, Messrs. Hunter and Son, of Par- ' nell The whole of this structure was completed in .seven weeks, and will ever reflect credit upon the labour and pains bestowed upon it by the contractors. The next building, whioh is now closed in, and will very shortly be completed, belongs to our enter- j prisincr merchant, E, tf . JTorris, Esq. The dimensions | of this , building, which is intended, for a. store, are 30 x 32. The lower floor will be used as a store and office; the upper room will be appropriated, at, present, as an assembly-room. The architect of this building is A. Wl Burrows, Esq., who, evidently," in this instanqe, has proved himself a perfect master of his, .profession. As he is about to settle in Tauranga,' I only hope that he may receive every encouragement. The builders are again the Messrs. Hunter and Son, and the erection is, in like , manner with Mr. Chadwick's, a perfect piece of workmanship."
