THE AUCKLAND HUNT.

i ,To the Editor of the Daily Southern Cross. 1 Sir, — Pardon my again trespassing on your kindness, but I am sure you will agree with me as to the necessity of publishing the following remarks :—: — I am glad to learn not only from the letters, which 1 appeared in your columns to-day, but from other sources, that I wrote on the 16th under a misapprehension of facts. For this lam to blame, and avail myself of this the earliest opportunity to admit my error. The temporary appointment of a new master to the Hunt is necessary, »ud no better choice could have been nude than Captain Stirling, who is an.excellent horseman, riding always straight with pluck and judgment. These merits were never, denied to Captain Stirling. . > The whole argument of my letter hinges on this appointment. But I still hold it to be an error to make auy changes in the practice and principles of the Hunt without the presence of the real master ; and I also hold that it is a great pity that better measures are not adopted for obtaining the co-opera-tion of the gentlemen farmers and citizens iv the interest of the hunt. No one was perhaps more charged than myself by •Major Baker to keep it going, and I have endeavoured to comply with his request, and to defend his position when 1 thought it had been slighted. — ' I am, sir, &c, Yoioks.
